Course Overview

The BSB80320 Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership is designed for individuals who apply advanced knowledge and skills in strategic leadership and management roles. These professionals make high-level autonomous decisions and use initiative and judgment to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions in varied contexts. They are accountable for personal outputs and the work or function of others, utilizing cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyze, consolidate, and synthesize knowledge to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems. Communication skills are employed to demonstrate understanding of theoretical concepts and to transfer knowledge and ideas to others.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is limited to individuals who:

  • Have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in related fields of study and have three years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise. OR
  • Have completed a Bachelor degree in related fields of study and have two years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise. OR
  • Have five years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise.

Course Structure

Total Units: 8 (2 core units and 6 elective units)

Core Units:

  • BSBLDR811 – Lead strategic transformation
  • BSBSTR802 – Lead strategic planning processes for an organisation

Elective Units:

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment, and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. Some elective options include:

  • BSBFIN801 – Lead financial strategy development
  • BSBHRM615 – Contribute to the development of diversity and inclusion strategies
  • BSBINS603 – Initiate and lead applied research
  • BSBLDR812 – Develop and cultivate collaborative partnerships and relationships
  • BSBLDR813 – Lead and influence ethical practice
  • BSBPMG810 – Prioritise projects and programs
  • BSBPMG814 – Lead the portfolio
  • BSBSTR801 – Lead innovative thinking and practice
  • BSBSTR803 – Establish business continuity management strategies
  • BSBTEC601 – Review organisational digital strategy

Note: Up to two elective units may be selected from a Graduate Diploma from this or any other currently endorsed Training Package qualification or accredited course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Pathway

For individuals with substantial experience in strategic leadership roles, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway offers an opportunity to have existing skills and knowledge formally recognized. This process involves:

  • Providing evidence of relevant work experience and prior learning.
  • Demonstrating competency through assessments aligned with the qualification requirements.

Engaging in the RPL process can expedite the attainment of the qualification and may reduce the need for additional training, acknowledging the value of practical experience in the field.
