Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
RPL is an assessment process that evaluates your existing skills, knowledge, and work experience—gained through employment, training, or life experience—against the requirements of a formal qualification. If eligible, you can gain certification without the need for classroom study.

2. Who is RPL suitable for?
RPL is ideal for individuals who have hands-on experience in their field but lack formal qualifications. This includes tradespeople, managers, caregivers, hospitality workers, IT professionals, construction workers, and many more.

3. Is RPL nationally recognised in Australia?
Yes. All qualifications obtained through RPL are issued by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and are recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)—valid across all states and industries.

4. What evidence do I need to provide for RPL?
You may need to submit:

  • Resume or CV
  • References or letters from employers/clients
  • Work samples (photos, reports, videos)
  • Certificates, awards, or training records
  • Payslips or job contracts
Our team will guide you through what’s required and help you organise it.

5. How long does the RPL process take?
On average, the RPL process takes 2 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly you provide the required evidence. Fast-track options may be available if you need urgent certification.

6. Can I apply for RPL if I’m self-employed?
Yes! If you’re self-employed or a freelancer, you can still qualify for RPL. You’ll just need to provide proof of your work—such as business registration, client testimonials, invoices, or project documentation.

7. What if I don’t meet all the criteria for full RPL?
If you’re missing some competencies, you may be offered a gap training plan, which allows you to complete only the missing units through formal study—saving time and cost compared to enrolling in a full course.

8. Is RPL the same as Credit Transfer?
No. RPL assesses informal learning and experience, while Credit Transfer is for students who already hold a qualification or completed units from another RTO. You may be eligible for both depending on your background.

9. How much does RPL cost?
Costs vary depending on the qualification and your experience. We offer affordable, upfront pricing with flexible payment plans. Contact us for a free assessment and quote.

10. How do I get started with RPL?
Getting started is easy! Simply fill out our free eligibility form, and one of our consultants will contact you to assess your experience, recommend a suitable qualification, and guide you through the next steps.
