Course Overview

The TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is designed for experienced professionals in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. It caters to individuals aiming to advance their careers in roles such as senior trainers, course designers, and VET leaders. This qualification emphasizes the development of advanced training skills, curriculum design, and leadership capabilities within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

Specialisations

The diploma offers three distinct specialisation streams, each tailored to specific career pathways:

  1. Advanced Training and Assessment
    Focuses on enhancing training delivery and assessment practices, including leading assessment moderation and validation processes.
  2. Design and Development
    Centers on creating and developing training programs and assessment tools, with an emphasis on instructional design and resource development.
  3. VET Leadership
    Prepares individuals for leadership roles within the VET sector, covering areas such as quality assurance, compliance, and mentoring of junior staff.

Upon completion, the chosen specialisation is indicated on the qualification testamur.

Course Structure

Total Units: 12 (3 core units and 9 elective units)

Core Units:

  • TAEDES511 – Design and develop strategies for training and assessment
  • TAEDES515 – Evaluate training
  • TAEPDD511 – Maintain and enhance professional practice

Elective Units:

  • At least 5 elective units must be selected from the chosen specialisation group (A, B, or C).
  • Of the remaining elective units:
    • At least 2 must be chosen from the elective units listed below.
    • Up to 2 may be from any currently endorsed Certificate IV or above training package qualification or accredited course, provided that no more than 1 of these 2 units is from a Certificate IV qualification.

Elective units should be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment, and contribute to a valid vocational outcome for personnel in the VET sector working at this level.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate current VET skills and knowledge relevant to the specialisation chosen in this qualification. This includes holding prerequisite units such as:

  • TAEASS412 – Assess competence
  • TAEASS413 – Participate in assessment validation
  • TAEDEL411 – Facilitate vocational training
  • TAEDES411 – Use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs

These prerequisites ensure that learners have the foundational skills necessary for advanced study and practice in the VET sector.

Course Duration

The volume of learning for this qualification is typically between 1 to 2 years (1200 – 2400 hours), depending on prior experience and the chosen study mode.
